JUNE 2004
MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT:
Fellow Rotarians:
This will be my final letter as your President and I wanted to use this space to
tell you all how much I appreciate you! You have all been so supportive and
helpful this past year, and I could not have done it without you! I hope that
you have enjoyed Rotary this year and that you are satisfied that we have made a
difference in our community.
Since July 1, 2003 our club has made the following donations: $8,500 to local
organizations; provided $3,000 to complete our International project; set aside
$4,500 to go along with the $4,000 grant we received from our District to use
for our Centennial project; gave $2,250 in scholarships; donated $10,585 to the
RI Foundation and about $2,350 to the Jasper Rotary Foundation. That’s a total
of $ 35,185 our club has provided this year to improve the lives of countless
people - quite a significant impact!
During our business meeting on June 29, I will provide for your information and
discussion a complete year-end financial statement. I will also give out this
year’s Service Above Self Awards, and we will also recognize the club’s 25 Paul
Harris Fellows. Please try to attend.
One year ago, you put your trust in my ability to lead this club. I hope that I
have done my job satisfactorily. I appreciate the honor of serving as your
president.
Yours in Service
Pam Fikes

ROTARY SPOTLIGHT
In honor of Rotary founder Paul Harris, the Paul Harris Fellow Recognition program was developed in the mid1940's. Although the program was originally a scholar program, it was later modified to recognize Rotarians who participate in the support of Rotary’s educational and humanitarian programs through the Foundation by making a gift to The Rotary Foundation's Annual Programs Fund. Donors to the Annual Program Fund receive recognition as a Paul Harris Fellow once they have reached the specified level of giving.
Anyone who contributes –– or in whose name is contributed –– a gift of $1,000 or more to the Annual Programs Fund may become a Paul Harris Fellow. Each new Paul Harris Fellow receives a commemorative certificate, a Paul Harris Fellow pin, and a medallion.
Jasper Rotary has 25 Paul Harris Fellows: Doyce Briscoe, Joe Brown, Linda Burns, Frank Cobb, Charles Earnest, Pam Fikes, Tony Graham, Alec Grant, Ted Killingsworth, Larry Lapkovitch, Betsy Lavanna, Jerry Lovett, Pat Maddox, Fred May, Gerson May, Al McAdams, Gwaltney McCollum, George Mitnick, Pat Nelson, Brack O’Rear, Doug Pearson, Max Perdue, Cliff Rhodes, Jerald Sherer, Haig Wright.
