LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT
Dear Fellow Rotarians:
The month of March will be the Polio Plus month internationally. The commitment
from District 6860 has been $570,000. Our club has committed to $3,500 for this
year. I want to thank Dr. David Wesley who has taken on that obligation to get
the pledges from our club, collect the pledges and to deposit them in a
designated bank account. Each and every one of you that have made a pledge,
purchased a chance for the mountain trip, or encouraged someone outside our club
to make a commitment have made a difference in the world community. Polio does
affect us all and elimination of a disease worldwide is an enormous feat. I plan
to have an article in our local newspaper to discuss the disease, our local
commitment and the future need sometime in the month of March.
The Egg Hunt will be April 19, 2003. We will be having some new ideas and
thought to designate the proceeds to an effort that we have made a financial
commitment to. The details will be announced soon. Please make the time to
participate in this activity. It is one of our major fund-raisers and an
opportunity to show the community that we are a service organization that does
things for Jasper. It is for the “fun” and “fellowship” that we also participate
in these fund-raisers so please enjoy your activities too.
Yours in Service
Linda Burns
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Thanks to Joe Brown for re-instituting the Gun Raffle this year. The net
proceeds from this fund-raiser was $935. This was an optional fund-raiser and
the benefit to the club is great. Joe has performed this task for many years and
this year was particularly more difficult for him due to family being involved
in the November tornado outbreak. We appreciate your time and dedication Joe!
John Green and David Patton were sworn in on February 18. Judge Lapkovitch, on a
moment’s notice, agreed to perform our brief but important ceremony so these
guys would be members. Thanks to Judge Lapkovitch!
The surveys for the GSE cookout were in the last bulletin. The information is
repeated this month on the enclosed insert. Be sure to return your survey so
that we can adequately account for the food and space we will need to have the
cookout. Alec Grant is the chairman for the visit of the GSE team and will need
everyone’s support to show the team our hospitality.
Dr. David Wesley will finish the Polio Plus drive in March. Announcements on the
drawing for the trip will be made in March. See the enclosed insert for
information regarding our efforts as well as statistics.
Jay Betts has been proposed as a new member by Walker Wilson. Jay will be
running the new Open MRI office on Walston Bridge Road.
Our Easter Egg Hunt will be held at the Old Airport on April 19. Trudie Seirafi
will chair the event. We will be calling on members to help for ideas and
participation.
Pam Fikes and Tony Sparks attended the PETS Training on February 21st. Pam,
Trudie Seirafi, Greg O’Rear, Torrie Grelle and Linda Burns attend District
Assembly on February 22nd and will be presenting some new ideas to the club to
aide in our continued success.
The Monthly Board Meeting will be held on Monday, March 10th at noon.

Who Am I ?
In a broad sense, I help transfer risk from individuals to a larger group in the
course of my work. More specifically, I help individuals and families plan for
their future. You might know who I am if you have ever tried my "famous chicken"
or caught a glimpse of me driving my Early Bronco. I have been known to burst
into song at our weekly meetings and even led our Rotary Club from 1989 -1990.
Who Am I?
If you know who I am please enter the drawing to win $25 given in your name to
the Jasper Rotary Foundation. Put my name and yours on a strip of paper located
in the back of the meeting room and drop it in the bowl. You have through the
last meeting of the month to enter. A winner will be drawn the first meeting of
each month. You must be present to win the drawing.
