Newsletter September 2004

Fellow Rotarians:

We are now in our second month of the 2004-2005 business year and things are beginning to fall into place, or at least I hope they are.  I appreciate the support and effort the entire membership has given me in my brief tenure as your President for this year.  With your continued help and support, we can continue to lift up the accomplishments of the Jasper Rotary Club and serve our community.

We have finalized our budget and set a goal of $65,000.00 in revenue and fundraisers for the year.  In so doing, we will be able to assist the following groups:

Daily Mtn Eagle Shoe Fund: $1,000; Crescent Jr. Study Club:  $1000; Beacon House: $1000; Daybreak: $1000; ARC of Walker County: $1000; Kid One Transport: $2000; Jasper Area Family Service Center: $1000; International Project (Honduras): $1000; Polio Plus: $3300; R.I. Foundation (Paul Harris); $700; Scholarships: $1000; Boy Scouts of America: $500; Downtown Merchants Association: $500; Rotary International: $4000; Rotary District: $1360; Rotary Foundation: $7000; and Local Rotary Foundation: $2000.

We also have earmarked $8,500 for our Centennial Park Project to coincide with our 100th year anniversary of Rotary.

As one can see, we have a busy year ahead of us and a lot to accomplish.  Please remember, this is your Rotary Club.  Let’s all join efforts and Celebrate Rotary  in our community and in our life.

Yours in Service,

Tony Sparks

ROTARY SPOTLIGHT     September 2004

The Rotary theme for August is Membership Extension and Retention.  Imagine if your club were to lose 10% of its members.  How would that affect your service programs?  What projects might not get finished?  Which one might never have been started?

Now consider what your club could accomplish with 10% or 5% or even 2% more members.  Think about the professional expertise you could add to your club’s overall profile simply by making sure your classification system incorporated all business and professional interests within your community.  Think about the new ideas and new club service projects that could be initiated.  Think about the additional people to take on leadership and committee roles.

Diversity is another critical issue to consider in building your membership.  By striving for a diverse membership base, your club becomes more representative of the community and better able to identify and meet local service needs.

Every new Rotarian begins a range of personal and professional resources and knowledge that can strengthen your club’s ability to serve throughout the community and the world.  The continuation of Rotary International and its local clubs depends on continued membership growth of the Rotary Foundation.  Membership is our primary resource and what builds and maintains strong healthy clubs.

Look around you and invite someone to become a part of the Jasper Rotary Club.
