JASPER ROTARY OCTOBER 2002 NEWSLETTER

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Dear Fellow Rotarians:

Our Reading Program has begun for the 2002-2003 Rotary year. If you haven’t had the opportunity to read or you are reluctant to read, you’ll be inspired to continue once you read that first time. The principals have given me some positive feedback and are so pleased with their students receiving special reading time. Please volunteer as often as you can. Coordinator for the reading program is Clyde McSpadden.

Our Golf Tournament is October 18, 2002. We need players and volunteers to work the tournament, T-box sales from either your business or one that you can recommend. This is a major fundraiser for the year and a fun event for all who participate. This is an event where your volunteerism has an important impact on the club. Coordinator for the golf tournament is Betsy Lavanna.

September was our kick-off for learning about Polio and Rotary’s role in the Polio Plus campaign. The goal set for our club is $35 per member per year for three years. This financial commitment will help Rotary reach its goal by 2005 to eradicate Polio as an infectious disease. Coordinator for this program is David Wesley.

In closing, I wanted to thank each of you for the increase in attendance and enthusiasm during the month of September.

Yours in Service

Linda Burns

Who Am I ?

I missed the expedition west in 1804 (I’m not that old). But I have been known to attend a round up. “The Little Old Lady That Lived in a Shoe” has nothing on me. I play mother to so many children; I don’t know what to do. John got fame and glory for writing about it in a best selling novel, but I have to live in it everyday. For a view of the city like you’ve never seen, come sit in my chair for a day. Who Am I?

If you know who I am please enter the drawing to win $25 given in your name to the Jasper Rotary Foundation. Put my name and yours on a strip of paper located in the back of the meeting room and drop it in the bowl. You have through the last meeting of the month to enter. A winner will be drawn the first meeting of each month. You must be present to enter the drawing.
