 This month we recognize and congratulate Chad Adams "Rotarian of the Month". Chad has done an outstanding job as president this past Rotary Year and has played a major role in the many accomplishments of the club including the Rotary Timepiece, Rotary Foundation and tremendous increase in membership.

Chad and wife Rebecca have been members of the Jasper community for 10 years, and came to Jasper from Birmingham. They have two children - Ryan and Charli - and are members of Woodland Trace Church of Christ. Chad has been employed by Drummond Company as Executive Assistant for 10 years.

Chad, a Rotarian for 6 years, has served as President of Jasper Rotary from 2001-2002, as well as serving as secretary for 2 years, treasurer for 2 years and also as vocational service director.

Besides his Rotary activities, Chad has also contributed to our community by serving as chairman of the United Way Allocation Team for Walker County, chairman of Walk America for the March of Dimes and chairman of the Mountain District Friends of Scouting. Chad is truly a Rotarian we can all be proud of. Congratulations, Chad!

This month we would like to congratulate Linda Burns

"Rotarian of the Month". Linda is being recognized due to her work with the Jasper Rotary Egg Hunt this year that raised about $7,000. Linda has worked with the egg hunt for about 4 years and this year she was the chairman of the event. Linda has been a member of Jasper Rotary since 1989.

.Linda and her husband of 21 years, Pat Hyland, have lived in Jasper since 1989. They have a daughter, Kathleen. Linda is originally from St. Petersburg, Florida and has a BS Degree from Alabama in Nursing, MS from UAB in Nursing and a JD from the Cumberland School of Law at Sanford. She has practiced law in Jasper since 1989.

Linda is a member of St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church, sits on the Board of Directors for DayBreak and Beacon House and belongs to the Savvy Ladies Investment Club. She also is a registered nurse and is on staff at Children’s Hospital where she nurses and lectures and has done so for 17 years. In addition to her professional activities, Linda also does heirloom sewing. Linda is truly a Rotarian we can all be proud of. Congratulations Linda!

This month we would like to congratulate Pam Fikes, "Rotarian of the Month." Pam has been the Rotary bulletin editor for four years and has recently finished the design and implementation of the Jasper Rotary Webpage at

Pam is the manager of the Alabama State Employment Service and Claims Office in Jasper where she has been employed for 17 years. She also works with School to Career, the West Alabama Youth Partnership SOS program, the Family Resource Center, the Walker Celtic Festival, serves on the JOBS Advisory Board, and is an Alum of Leadership Walker County.

Pam and her husband, Max, are originally from Walker County and have two daughters, Amanda and Amy. They attend St. Mary’s Episcopal church. She is truly a Rotarian we can be proud of. Congratulations, Pam!

Rotarian of the Month - March 2002

   This month we would like to congratulate Greg Reed, “Rotarian of the Month”. Greg and his wife Mitsy are originally from Walker County and have three sons, Andrew and James - 7 year old twins, and John Michael, who is 5. Greg and Mitsy also teach Sunday School at First Baptist Church of Jasper where they are members.
   Greg has served this Rotary year as Vocational Service Director and coordinator for the School to Career Job Shadow Day Rotary Career Booth. As Vocational Service Director, Greg is also responsible for Career Development, Vocations at Work, Vocational Awareness and Vocational Awards.
   Greg is employed in medical equipment sales as general manager of General Electric Medical Systems. He is sales manager for the Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee and Louisiana area for PET - Positron Emission Tomography, which is cancer detection technology involved in the ejection of isotopes into the body to detect cancer.
Greg also serves as President of the Walker College Alumni Association, Senior Vice Chairman of the Alabama Republican Party and sits on the Board of Directors for the Family Resource Center. He is truly a Rotarian we can be proud of. Congratulations, Greg!

Rotarian of the Month - February 2002

This month we would like to congratulate Torrie Grelle, “Rotarian of the Month”. Torrie, most recently, served as the coordinator for the Daily Mountain Eagle Shoe Fund. This project is very significant in our community and has been for many years. Her involvement in this project is what we’ve come to expect from our fellow Rotarians.

Torrie relocated to Jasper five years ago from Texarkana, Texas. Her husband is Kerry Grelle and she is the mother of two children, Colby and Kenzi. Torrie is active in her church where she sings in the choir and teaches 9th grade Sunday school. Additionally, Torrie serves on the AlaCare Hospice Board and the Walker High Transitional Team. She has also done a great job with public relations for our club this year. Torrie is truly a Rotarian we can all be proud of. Congratulations, Torrie!

Rotarian of the Month - January 2002

This month, we would like to congratulate Cliff Rhodes, “Rotarian of the Month”. Cliff has been a Rotarian for 20 years and has served as Rotary President, Secretary/Treasurer, Club Service Chairman and Community Service Chairman, as well as being a board member for several years. Cliff has also chaired such projects as the Rotary Christmas Tree sale in years past and has acted as coordinator for the Salvation Army Bell Ringing for the last 5 years. In addition to his Rotary participation, Cliff also serves on the Salvation Army Board of Directors and is Vice President of the Walker County Chamber of Commerce. Cliff believes strongly in the Rotary Club 4 Way Test.
 

Cliff and his wife of 30 years, Pamela, moved to Jasper in 1979 from Huntsville. He is an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Jasper and has 3 children, one of which resides in New Zealand. Cliff is truly a Rotarian we can be proud of. Congratulations Cliff!

Rotarian of the Month - December 2001

This month we would like to congratulate Russ Robertson “Rotarian of the Month. Russ is a native of Jasper and attended the University of Alabama and the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University. He also attends First Baptist Church of Jasper and is District Chairman of the Black Warrior Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Russ also serves on the Industrial Development Board of Walker County and is the Friends of Scouting Chairman for 2002 and Friends of Scouting Dinner Coordinator this year.

As a Rotarian, Russ has served the club in many ways, most recently by organizing and coordinating the 2001 Jasper Rotary Golf Tournament, which raised about $4,500. His duties included lining up volunteers and sponsors, fund raising, and working with tournament assistants to make signs, obtain door prizes and recruit teams. Russ is truly a Rotarian we can be proud of. Congratulations Russ.

Rotarian of the Month - November 2001

This month, we would like to congratulate Clyde McSpadden, “Rotarian of the Month”. Clyde has been a Jasper Rotarian since April 1999 and has served most recently as coordinator for the Rotary Reading Program. He has also assisted with the Easter Egg Hunt each year and is a faithful Rotarian.

Clyde, a native of Bibb County, and his wife Mildred, a Cordova native, moved to the Jasper area following his retirement as Assistant Professor of General Science at Jacksonville State University after 28 years. Prior to teaching at the University, Clyde was a public school teacher of Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

Clyde is a member of the Chamber of Commerce of Walker County and First Baptist Church of Jasper. His history of community service extends to his former home of Jacksonville , Alabama where he helped organize a Christian outreach center - serving underprivileged people, served as Alumni Adviser of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity at JSU - having brought the fraternity to the campus and was the #1 initiate. He currently is an active member of the Retired Faculty Club of JSU and a member of Kappa Delta Pi, honoring leadership and academic fraternity. Clyde is truly a Rotarian we can be proud of. Congratulations Clyde.
 

Rotarian of the Month - October 2001

This month, we would like to congratulate Bill Ashenfelter “Rotarian of the Month”. Bill serves as our Sergeant-at-Arms, an office which consists of a wide range of duties including setting up for meetings each week and being responsible for the official Rotary emblems and other meeting paraphernalia like banners, badges, flags, etc.
The office of the Sergeant at Arms is also responsible for the ongoing challenge of assuring that all members are knowledgeable about the four way test, pertinent facts of Rotary and who the officers, directors and fellow club members are. Along these lines, Bill keeps up with all the new members and prepares their member badges and makes sure they have them in a timely manner. The Sergeant at Arms also is responsible for moderating disruptive behavior and assessing proper and humane penalties when necessary.

Bill was instrumental in the preparation and distribution of the new Rotary directories. He has served as Sergeant at Arms for about four years and has been a Rotarian since 1972. Bill is truly a Rotarian we can all be proud of. Congratulations Bill!

Rotarian of the Month - September 2001

     This month, we would like to congratulate Betsy Lavanna “Rotarian of the Month”. In partnership with the City of Jasper, Dr. Betsy Lavanna, Director of Institutional Advancement at Bevill State Community College, spent the last 18 months directing the restoration of the Carl Elliott House Museum on behalf of the College. Throughout the process, she worked closely with members of the Elliott family and Elliott’s longtime Congressional Aid Mary Allen Jolley to portray the house as it existed during the years that the Congressman was at the height of his political career. The museum, which opened in July, is owned and operated by the College.
     Dr. Lavanna is a member and past president of the Rotary Club of Jasper, a member of the President’s Cabinet of the Walker Area Community Foundation, secretary of the Jasper Community Development Corporation, and a member of the JOBS Advisory Board of the Department of Human Resources. She is a graduate of Leadership Walker County and served as chairman of the Walker County School-to-Career Partnership from 1996-1999. Dr. Lavanna has been a member of the board of directors of the Chamber of Commerce of Walker County and the Walker County United Way Cabinet. In 1995, she was an Alabama delegate to the White House Rural Mini Conference on Aging. Betsy is truly a Rotarian we can all be proud of. Congratulations Betsy!
 

Rotarian of the Month - August 2001

This month we would like to congratulate Libba Elliott, “Rotarian of the Month”. Libba serves on the Rotary Board as our Club Service Director. Most recently, Libba was responsible for organizing pictures and profiles for a new directory and new member orientation manual. Additionally, Club Service is responsible for our weekly programs, the monthly bulletin, and new member orientation. Libba has had great support from her committee members, but that support was earned through her dedication to Rotary and leadership by example.


The morale of any club rests in its ability to provide its members with a quality experience, and that job is shouldered by its Club Service Director. Everyone will agree that Libba has done a great job in providing quality member services, and she is a Rotarian we can all be proud of. Congratulations Libba!

Rotarian of the Month - July 2001

This month we would like to congratulate Tony Graham, “Rotarian of the Month”. Tony serves on the Rotary Board as our International Service Director. Most recently, he was responsible for hosting a team of Group Study Exchange members from Brazil. Tony did an excellent job of providing the team with a quality Jasper experience, as well as entertaining them at his Smith Lake home.

In addition, our club won highest honor at District Conference for our Rotary Foundation giving, and this was largely attributable to Tony’s hard work in the area of International Service. Last, and most importantly, Tony exemplified his dedication to Rotary by becoming one of our newest “Paul Harris Fellows”. Tony is truly a Rotarian we can all be proud of. Congratulations Tony.
